A Woman's Pelvis

Pelvic Floor Awareness Programme with Melissa Borich

Pelvic floor awareness is important for women of all ages and stages, from the onset of puberty, giving birth, moving thru perimenopause and into menopause. Unfortunately, the health of pelvic floor is often taken for granted or over looked until one experiences complications, which may arise postpartum, or from surgery, incontinence, illness, ageing, pelvic organ prolapse, early onset menopause, or painful and or irregular monthly cycles.

At the beginning of the 2-hour pelvic floor programme there is a short anatomy lesson on the 3 groups of pelvic floor muscle and where they are located in the body. Many have found this most helpful in expanding their own awareness of pelvic floor and how it functions.

You also receive a pelvic floor maintenance sequence that can take you from your yoga mat and into your daily life. Pelvic floor awareness continues to become more familiar and accessible to be able to notice what is actually taking place for you.

As I navigated my way through motherhood, peri menopause and menopause, my daily practice of yoga began to evolve into a much slower, deeper aware practice. It became very much about tuning in, not tuning out, meaning releasing the overthinking of "my practice should be more active, stronger, quicker". Slowing down and "waking up" to the different sensations in my body, which included my pelvic floor. Modifying, adjusting, studying ways in which to navigate my yoga practice to support, nourish and sustain me through these different stages of a woman's life.

I wish that I had these practices and resources available to me as I journeyed through puberty and my younger years. Having an awareness of pelvic floor helps to create and maintain an intimacy with yourself whatever stage of your woman's journey is taking place for you. I would go as far to say "necessary" at whatever age or stage of your life.

If pelvic floor awareness is ignited from a younger woman's age, perhaps the transitioning into all of the ages and stages would become a little more easeful.

May this programme be of benefit to you, whatever age or stage of your woman's journey you are on.

It is never too late to begin,

Testimonials

I have had the pleasure of attending Melissa's Pelvic Floor Class. Bringing the focus back to the pelvic floor allows consciousness that assists in both maintaining a healthy pelvic floor, working on areas that may be prone or weakened to become stronger. This allows for a happier and stress-free life.

With love and respect.

I would like to tell you about my experience with your pelvic floor work we did together recently…. Towards the beginning of Melissa's pelvic floor class, she explained the pelvic floor, using a 3D model of the pelvic area, which included the pelvic floor. We were able to understand visually what we were working with. I found this to be most helpful as we also passed this around and could feel and touch the model. We then did exercises that enabled me to feel the full length of my pelvic floor. I had not realised it was so extensive. At the end of the session, I felt very connected with my pelvic floor, like I had not been before. This was pain-free and enjoyed in a supportive and nurturing environment, under Melissa's guidance and care. Thanks Melissa.
